Hyderabad Police Commissioner, V.C. Sajjanar, on Monday (February 17, 2026) issued a strong warning to youngsters indulging in illegal activities for the sake of social media attention, after a video surfaced showing two young men allegedly displaying narcotic substances before a deity during Mahashivratri celebrations.

Mr. Sajjanar cautioned that offences involving narcotic substances would invite stringent action under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act), which prescribes severe penalties, including imprisonment. He stressed that once the provisions of the Act are invoked, the legal consequences can be long-term and life-altering.

Sharing the video on X, he urged youth not to jeopardise their future for fleeting social media fame and said drug-related offences would not be taken lightly and that strict legal action would follow against those responsible.

He also appealed to young users to treat social media as a platform for creativity and constructive expression, rather than a means to promote unlawful behaviour or substance abuse.
