The film, also starring Kannada star Raj B Shetty, Kishore and Malavika Mohanan, marks Kumararaja’s return to feature film direction after seven long years. On Monday (February 16), the makers unveiled a title poster to announce the commencement of the shoot. The poster, featuring Vijay, appears to be inspired by vintage Tamil crime novels. Details regarding the plot are unknown at the moment. Notably, Kumararaja has also reunited with legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja in the film; the latter was one of the composers in the 2023 anthology series Modern Love: Chennai, in which Kumararaja served as the creator (the segments Ilaiyaraaja composed music for includes Ninaivo Oru Paravai, which was directed by Kumararaja himself). With a story and screenplay written by Andrew Louis (Leelai, Kolaigaaran, Vadhandhi: The Fable of Velonie), the upcoming film has cinematography by Nirav Shah and editing by Sathyaraj Natarajan. Pocket Novel is produced by Kumararaja and SD Ezhilmathy under the Tyler Durden and Kino Fest production banner. Kumararaja, known for helming 2010’s Aaranya Kaandam and 2019’s Super Deluxe, is widely considered one of the finest modern Tamil filmmakers. The filmmaker is known for his extensive breaks between films, and so the news about his next has come as a cause for celebration for Tamil cinema fans.
