The facility will focus on advanced simulations to observe Himalayan snow and glacier melting, urban quality in Indian metros, and regional hydro-climate. The facility will be known as VAYYU, Virtual Research Centre on Aerosol-Meteorology Interactions, Himalayan Atmosphere-Cryosphere Interactions, and Urban Air.

IIT Madras, represented by Shanti Pawan, Dean, Research, IIT Madras, Manu Santhanam, Dean, ICSR, and Chandan Sarangi, Department of Civil Engineering, signed an MoU with Finnish Met Institute represented by Petteri Taalas, Director General, FMI, and Hannele Karhonen, Research Professor, FMI.
