A total of 2,119.65 kg of contraband ganja, seized in 448 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act cases by different police stations across the city, was destroyed by the Greater Chennai City Police on Monday. 

The Drug Disposal Committee (DDC), constituted as per orders of Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner A. Arun, carried out the scientific disposal of seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances through incineration at an authorised facility near Chengalpattu complying with all environmental and legal standards.

The disposal was conducted by the Chairman of Drug Disposal Committee, K. Joshi Nirmal Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police, Headquarters and the members included R. Sakthivel, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Intelligence Section-1) and others.

Police said a total of 1,613 kilograms of contraband ganja, seized in 308 NDPS cases by different police stations across the city last year were destroyed on September 26, 2025 and November 1, 2025.
