Fire broke-out in a nationalised bank’s branch here destroyed the documents and a few computers on Monday. Police said that the fire broke-out in the Indian Bank’s branch near Sankarankovil Old Bus-Stand around 7 a.m. on Monday. As the passers-by noticed the smoke coming out from the closed building situated in a commercial complex, they alerted the Sankarankovil Town police and the fire and rescue services, who arrived at the spot within next few minutes from Sankarankovil and Vasduevanallur fire stations and extinguished the fire. Meanwhile, power supply to the area where the building is located was stopped. Since the commercial complex is located on a narrow street, the fire and rescue services personnel had to struggle hard to position the fire tenders and start the firefighting. Sources in the fire and rescue services said documents and computers were badly damaged in the mishap.
