Stalin on Monday inaugurated newly constructed housing units across various rehabilitation camps via video conferencing. As part of this State-wide initiative, 52 houses built at a cost of ₹4.20 crore were opened at Thayamangalam rehabilitation camp in Sivaganga district. Presiding over the event, Minister for Cooperation KR. Periakaruppan emphasised that the DMK government, under the leadership of CM Stalin, is nearing the completion of its five-year term by strictly adhering to the ‘Everything for Everyone’ (’Ellorkkum Ellamum’) principle. “Our Chief Minister has not only fulfilled his electoral promises but has gone beyond to ensure a dignified life for our brothers and sisters who arrived here from Sri Lanka due to economic crises,” he stated. The project in Thayamangalam consists of 13 blocks comprising 52 individual houses. The government has prioritised holistic living conditions, by prioritising even basic features like installation of paver block roads, new pipelines and dedicated overhead water tanks and a comprehensive street lighting across the camp. Mr. Periakaruppan recalled that the foundation for the improvements was laid by the former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in 2006, who had initially commissioned a study to upgrade camp infrastructure. He added that the Thayamangalam project was part of a larger mission to replace 10,469 dilapidated houses in rehabilitation camps across Tamil Nadu with permanent, safe structures. In Sivaganga district alone, approximately 480 houses have been completed across five camps—Thayamangalam, Karaiyur, Moongiloorani, Sennalakkudi, and Okkur—at a total outlay of ₹25 crore. Similarly, in Ramanathapuram district, Mr. Stalin, inaugurated a new industrial workshop built at a cost of ₹21 lakh at the Mandapam Sri Lankan Tamil Rehabilitation Camp. District Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon, said, the facility was designed to benefit 28 Women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) currently active within the Mandapam Rehabilitation Camp and it would also serve as a hub for providing training and production space for various livelihoods, including tailoring training, palmyra leaf handicraft production and banana fibre plate manufacturing. In addition, a newly constructed Integrated Rehabilitation Service Centre building at the Mandapam Upgraded Government Primary Health Centre at a cost of ₹19 lakh was also inaugurated.
