Competition held Fatima College, Madurai, hosted Campus Buzz 2026 to provide a platform for emerging entrepreneurs while encouraging student participation through competitions and cultural activities. Around 140 stalls were set up across the campus. It offered small-scale entrepreneurs an opportunity to showcase their products and interact directly with customers. Games and recreational activities were also organised. As part of the celebrations, Theni Anandham, in collaboration with Radio Mirchi, organised Super Woman 2.0, a series of competitions exclusively for the students of Fatima College. Speaking at the event, Principal M. Fatima Mary highlighted the importance of empowering young women through creative and competitive platforms. Annual Day VMJ School celebrated its 50th Annual Day with the theme ‘Roots of Pride, Wings of Progress’. Chief guest P.C.K. Maheswaran distributed prizes. Next day, Padma Shri R.G. Bird count Green Club of TSM organises a Campus Bird Count. | Photo Credit: SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT Green Club of Thiagarajar School of Management (TSM) organised a Campus Bird Count as part of its green initiative. It was conducted in alignment with the Annual Great Backyard Bird Count to foster biodiversity awareness and strengthen environmental responsibility among students. Over 60 students from Thiagarajar School of Management and nearby schools participated. A team of volunteers from TSM Green Club coordinated the event. Participants recorded 26 different bird species. A drawing competition was conducted for school students. An innovative Green Club initiative titled “Talk to the Tree” was also introduced. Director of TSM Murali Sambasivan appreciated the integration of technology with environmental education. Speaking at the event, Associate Professor V. Senthil emphasised that birdwatching is not merely a leisure activity but also a means to improve focus and concentration. II The Postgraduate Department of Zoology, The American College, observed Wetland Celebration Day by undertaking a systematic bird diversity survey at the Samanatham wetland. It was undertaken by postgraduate students as part of experiential ornithology field methods and to promote awareness of wetland conservation. Study documented a total of 48 bird species, including 29 wetland species. Of these, eight were identified as migratory wetland species and 21 as migratory terrestrial species, underscoring the seasonal significance of the habitat. The Northern Shovelers were recorded in considerable numbers during the survey. Migratory species from the northern regions of Europe were observed. In addition, resident species, including near threatened spot billed pelicans, were documented. A total bird count exceeding 600 individuals was recorded. Speaking at the event, Janarthanan Ethirajulu, vice president, Global Delivery Executive and APAC Leader – IFAO Consulting, Capgemini, said that towards the five trillion economy in 2028 and changing geopolitical situations, India should be working on higher targets, and this inclusive budget is towards that direction. G. Saravana Kumar, practising Chartered Accountant and partner, BSL Associates, Madurai, explained the way in which the current budget simplified the tax incentives towards attracting foreign investments, clear and simple compliance procedure for individual taxpayers and the MSME sector, besides decriminalising the procedures through the new Income Tax Bill, 2025. More than 120 external participants, including students and faculty members from colleges and schools across Madurai, participated.
