One killed, five injured in road accident in Chittoor district

A woman was killed, and five others were seriously injured after a car plunged into a gorge at a forest stretch in Turakamitta village of Karveti Nagaram mandal in Chittoor district on Monday morning.

According to Karveti Nagaram police, the victims were reportedly returning to Karveti Nagaram after taking part in the Mahasivaratri celebrations at Sadasiva Kona hillock near Puttur in Tirupati district. The driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a hairpin bend, leading to the accident. Local residents, forest personnel, and the area police assisted in rescue efforts soon after the accident.

The woman, Devaki (45), died on the spot. Her body was shifted to Government Hospital in Puttur for post-mortem. The five injured persons were rushed to the Community Health Centre at Karveti Nagaram, where their condition was said to be stable and out of danger.

The Karveti Nagaram police registered a case and launched an investigation.
