The newly elected Councillors and Corporators in Telangana were sworn in on Monday (February 16, 2026) morning. This was followed by the process of the indirect elections to the posts of Mayor/Chairperson and Deputy Mayor/Vice Chairperson in Municipal Corporations and Municipalities respectively.

There is focus on the indirect elections to the leadership of the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) as political parties were involved in negotiations with independent candidates who won in the polls and there were allegations of poaching as there was no clear majority in 36 ULBs.

Elections to the 2996 Wards in 116 Municipalities and seven Municipal Corporations were held on February 11, 2026 and the results were declared on February 13 following vote counting.

Term of five years

The term of an elected member is five years from the date of the first meeting of the Municipality after the elections, as per The Telangana Municipalities Act 2019.
