Customs revenue collection from the Mangaluru Customs Commissionerate is poised to cross ₹ 8,000 crore by the end of this financial year, said Mangaluru Customs Commissioner P. Vinitha Sekhar in Mangaluru on Sunday.

Speaking at the International Customs Day programme, Ms. Sekhar said the revenue to be collected by the end of this financial year will be nearly double that of ₹4,132 crore, which was collected five years ago in 2020-21. “The revenue growth is a testament to our sustained efforts, strengthened compliance mechanisms, enhanced trade facilitation measures, and the dedication and professionalism of the Customs personnel,” she said.

Ms. Sekhar said the Mangaluru Commissionerate has successfully implemented several key digital initiatives last year, namely Sea Cargo Manifest and Transhipment Regulations, the E-wearhousing module, E-bonds, and E-seal. This is the first commissionerate in the country to roll out these transformative digital systems and set benchmarks in efficiency, transparency, and trade facilitation, she said.

Customs is facing some challenges, namely from the rapid growth of e-commerce, cross-border crime, smuggling, and supply chain vulnerability. With constant vigilance and unwavering commitment, the customs personnel are safeguarding not only economic interest but also the safety and security of society at large, the Commissioner said.

Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, M. Mohan Alva, commended the committed and transparent work mechanism of Ms. Shekar and other Customs personnel in the Mangaluru Commissionerate.

The Mangaluru Airport was given the Best Custodian Award. The awards for Best Performing Exporter, Best Performing Importer, Best Custom Broker, and Best Steamer Agent were also given.
