Five on bike killed in road accident near Vaippar

Five persons, including two children, were killed in a road accident near Vaippar in Thoothukudi district on Sunday.

Police identified the deceased as Gurusamy, 40, his sister Lakshmi, 48, his brother’s sons Sumithran 3, Mugilan 5, all from Pallakulam. The fifth victim was a woman estimated to be around 40 years, whose identity was yet to be ascertained, as she was known only to Gurusamy and Lakshmi. All five were traveling on a bike from Kulathur towards Pallakulam.

When they neared Vaippar on the ECR Road, the motorcycle collided head-on with a tourist van proceeding from Sayalkudi to Thoothukudi.

In the impact, all five were thrown off the vehicle and died on the spot.

On receiving information Kulathur police rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them for post mortem examination at Government Medical College and Hospital in Thoothukudi.

The Kulathur police have registered a case and secured the van driver Pachakili, 56, from Thoothukudi.
