Kumuly Police seized 35 kg of ganja and arrested three persons, including a woman from Tiruchi, at the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border on Sunday.

The car used for transporting the narcotics was impounded at the Lower Camp check post and ₹1.18 lakh in cash was found in the vehicle.

Since the statements of the passengers were contradictory, the police carried out a search of the vehicle. The narcotics was stashed in plastic bags and wrapped in cloth bags.

Inquiry revealed that the trio, identified as M. Muniasami, 36, R. Balasubramanian, 38, of Kamarajapuram, Munichalai, Madurai, and Selvi, 47, who lives in Tiruchi, but was residing in Munichalai, Madurai.

A senior officer said the three had invested money and had been to Odisha from where they sourced the narcotics. Through a contact, they were proceeding to a location in Kerala to sell the ganja. “Whether they have multiple networks in Kerala is being probed. We have obtained certain names and phone numbers of suspects and a team is tracking them.”

The police also found ₹1.18 lakh in cash, which was reportedly made out of sale of ganja.

Inspector Suriya Thilaga Rani and her team seized the vehicle and produced the three before the Uthamapalayam Magistrate court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
