Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Tiruchi zone, has projected that the city will emerge as a hub of the global capability centres (GCC).

In a presentation at the Vision 2030 district-level consultation event here on Saturday, attended by Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and Collector V. Saravanan, the CII said that Tiruchi had over 180 educational institutions, producing over 55,000 graduates annually. It had a robust industrial base and modern IT infrastructure. Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Indian Institute of Management, National Institute of Tiruchi, Bharathidasan University and a number of well-known colleges had credited Tiruchi as an educational hub. It was set to grow further. They had been producing quality freshers.

The document said that Tiruchi was well connected with road, rail, and air infrastructure. The availability of talented graduates and other infrastructure had the potential to transform Tiruchi as a hub of global capability centres. The construction of TIDEL Park at Panjapur, in addition to the existing ELCOT IT Park, would provide high-grade office space tailored for IT/ITES companies. The presence of industries such as Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL), the railway workshop, and the Ordnance Factory had been the support of the city’s growth.

The presentation added that the proposed dedicated inland container depot (dry port) would transform Tiruchi into a logistics hub, thereby leveraging the existing engineering talent.

The members of CII discussed on the roadmap to elevate Tiruchi’s economic standing. The Collector said the district had been making rapid development on various aspects. The district administration and the State government would offer all possible support.
