The Yakshagana Kalaranga of Udupi handed over its 88th new house built freely under its Vidyaposhak Scheme on Saturday.

The house was handed over to the family of Swastik S. Naik, a first-year pre-university student from Jaddkal Selkod area in Byndoor taluk of Udupi district. Mr. Swastik, son of Chikkamma and Shankar Naik, had secured 97% marks in SSLC and was selected under the Vidyaposhak scheme for his academic merit.

The house, named ‘Chandogathi’, was sponsored for the Kalaranga by Sharada M., a retired lecturer of MSRS College, Shirva, in memory of her husband Krishnamurthy K. Constructed at a cost of ₹7 lakh, it was also the second house sponsored by Ms. Sharada for the Kalaranga.

Speaking at the house handing over function, Ms. Sharada said that her husband had a deep interest in prosody and had dreamt of writing a book titled ‘Chandogathi’, which remained unfulfilled. Naming the house after the book title was a tribute to his memory, she said.

Presiding over the programme, Gururaj Gantihole, Byndoor MLA, said Yakshagana Kalaranga is a wonder, and its wide-ranging social, educational, and cultural activities were unmatched.
