File photo shows customers queuing up in front of a Kerala State Beverages Corporation (Bevco) outlet in Kochi | Photo Credit: THULASI KAKKAT As Kerala celebrated the New Year, Kerala State Beverages Corporation (Bevco) witnessed record liquor sales on New Year’s Eve, with the State-run corporation netting its highest-ever single-day turnover on December 31. According to Bevco officials, liquor worth ₹125.64 crore was sold across BEVCO outlets and warehouses in the State on the day, registering an uptick of ₹16.93 crore compared to the sales figures of ₹108.71 crore recorded on the New Year’s Eve last year (December 31, 2024). Among the outlets, the Kadavanthra outlet in Kochi topped list with sales of ₹1.17 crore, followed by Palarivattom at ₹95.09 lakh and Edappal at ₹82.86 lakh. On the other hand, the Kanjikuzhi outlet in Thodupuzha reported the lowest sales of around ₹4.61 lakh. In terms of volume, over 2.07 lakh cases of foreign liquor, beer and wine were sold by the corporation on December 31, compared to 1.84 lakh cases on the corresponding day in the previous year. The 2025-26 financial year so far has also witnessed cumulative liquor sales of ₹15,717.88 crore, exceeding the ₹14,765.09 crore recorded during the same period in the last fiscal. The Kadavanthra outlet had also registered a record sale on Christmas Eve, with sales there touching ₹66.88 lakh.
