The Indian People in Solidarity with Palestine (IPSP) organised a protest on Sunday (February 15, 2026), on the Main Road near the GVMC Office at Asilametta, opposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to Israel and the “Board of Peace” initiative proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. The participants said that amid widespread global protests, a ceasefire agreement was reached between Israel and Hamas in October 2025. However, even after this agreement, Israeli occupation forces have not halted their attacks on Palestinian civilians. During the five months of the ceasefire alone, more than 500 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli occupation forces. The IPSP activists demanded that the Indian government sever all kinds of ties with Israel, including trade and diplomatic relations. In this context, they called upon the Prime Minister to cancel his planned visit to Israel later this month. Last year, the U.S. President set up a “Board of Peace,” claiming it would bring peace to the region, without regard to the aspirations of the Palestinian people. India has also been invited to become part of this board. IPSP activists emphasised that this Board has no legitimate authority to decide the future of the Palestinian people. They alleged that the Board would benefit Western capitalists, including Mr. Trump, by facilitating real estate and other business interests by legitimising Israeli occupation. The Indian people have a history of opposing bodies like the Simon Commission, which sought to determine India’s future without regard for its people’s aspirations. IPSP activists described this “Board of Peace” as a Simon Commission moment for Palestine and urged people to oppose it in the same spirit. They also demanded that the Indian government reject the invitation to join the Board of Peace.
