A 35-year-old man killed his two daughters, aged seven and four at a guesthouse in Mamallapuram on Friday.

According to police sources, the man identified as Pradeep, 35 of Kolathur, was estranged from his wife following marital disputes. The couple’s daughters stayed with him. On February 9, Pradeep checked into a guesthouse in Mamallapuram with his two daughters. Over the next few days, he took them to the beach every morning and evening. On Friday evening, the three returned to their room and did not come out. Police said Pradeep also attempted to end his life.

When Pradeep and the children failed to come out of the room until 1.30 pm on Saturday, the guesthouse staff grew suspicious. They knocked on the door but received no response and alerted the Mamallapuram police.

Police broke open the door and found both children dead. Pradeep was found unconscious in critical condition. Mamallapuram police rushed Pradeep to the Govt hospital, where he was undergoing treatment. The bodies of the two children were sent to Government General Hospital, Chengalpattu for post-mortem examination.
