All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary K.C. Venugopal, MP, said here on Saturday that a substantial portion of the United Democratic Front (UDF) votes would be from Left-leaning voters in the upcoming Assembly elections. He said that the people in Kerala feared that yet another victory for the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] would create a Bengal-like situation in the State. “After witnessing the State government’s failures, even its allies are under stress. Many who support Communist ideals may react without fully grasping the situation,” he said. “People like K. Satchidanandan and Premkumar reacted. Since Mr. Satchidanandan is a nationally recognised figure, he was spared; but Mr. Premkumar was sidelined,” he said. Mr. Venugopal described the Global Ayyappa Meet organised by the government as the biggest scam Kerala witnessed in recent times. “The CPI(M) must stop exploiting temples and religious centres for scams,” he said.
