The Dakshina Kannada police have arrested two persons who had failed to appear before jurisdictional courts for several years.

The Puttur Town Police have arrested Abbas Ali Altaf, 55, of Padavu in Mangaluru, who had failed to appear before the trial court for nine years after securing bail. In a press release, the police said Altaf was secured from a place in Bikarnakatte in Mangaluru and produced before the court. The court remanded Altaf to judicial custody till February 27.

The police said a separate case was registered against Altaf for not appearing before the court after securing bail. The case was registered for offence punishable under Section 269 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The Venur police have arrested Yogish Poojary, 35, of Naravi village in Belthangady taluk. He had failed to appear before the trial court for 10 years in the case registered against him under Sections 11 and 12 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act in 2015. The trial court had issued non-bailable warrant against Poojary.

In a press release, the Venur police said Poojary was secured from a place in Naganur village of Gokak taluk in Belagavi district. He was produced before the trial court on Saturday, and the court remanded him to judicial custody, the police said.
