All India Congress Committee has commenced internal consultation as part of shortlisting candidates for the upcoming Assembly polls in the Union Territory. Chairman of AICC’s candidate screening committee T. S. Singh Deo was in Puducherry for the last two days holding deliberations with functionaries of the Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC). A senior leader told The Hindu that Mr. Deo, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, after his arrival in Puducherry on Friday attended a meeting of the PPCC’s Political Affairs Committee. Following the PAC meeting, he held discussions with senior leaders of the party, including former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, Member of Parliament and PCC chief V. Vaithilingam. On Saturday, Mr. Deo met party functionaries at the district and block levels to elicit their views on candidate selection. He also gathered inputs on the prevailing political situation in the Union Territory, he said.
