Rangrekha Kala Balaga, in collaboration with the Department of Kannada and Culture, Bengaluru, will be staging a historical play titled “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj” on the occasion of the 396th birth anniversary of the Maratha ruler, in Hubballi on February 18. Addressing reporters here on Saturday, president of the Kala Balaga Basavaraj Chakrasali said the programme would begin at the Sawai Gandharva Hall in Deshpande Nagar 5.30 p.m. Maratha community leader Shivraj Patil will inaugurate the event, while former Rangayana Dharwad director Subhash Narendra will preside over the function. Assistant director, Department of Kannada and Culture Kumar Bekkeri and other dignitaries will take part. The play has been written by Sadhu S. Kathare, with stage design and direction by Basavaraj Chakrasali, who will also portray the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The two-hour programme is open to the public and entry is free, he said. Senior artist and singer Tukaram Kathare, director of Rangabhoomi Subash Maharvade and others were present.
