Revanth Reddy on Saturday. A high-level joint inspection of Durgam Cheruvu and its surroundings was carried out by Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board managing director K. Ashok Reddy, executive director Santosh, and senior officials from GHMC, HMDA, Revenue and Irrigation departments. Together, the teams assessed the prevailing issues concerning the lake and planned necessary actions. According to Mr. Ashok Reddy, only sewage-treated water from Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) should be used for building construction, gardening, and landscaping in the Raheja Mind Space areas. Currently, sewage generated in the Madhapur, Silent Valley and surrounding catchment areas is treated through two STPs with capacities of 5 MLD and 7 MLD built near Durgam Lake. The treated water is being released into the lake to raise groundwater levels and preserve its hydrological balance, he said. Further, to reduce sewage inflow, work is underway on a 1000 mm pipeline from Madhapur Petrol Bunk to Madhapur I&D. This will also address the issue of sewage overflow on the park premises. Additionally, a water drain is being constructed to stop floodwater from entering the lake during the monsoon. He informed that a dedicated pipeline from the Durgam Cheruvu STP will be constructed to transport and distribute treated water for construction, gardening and landscaping and other purposes.
