A city court on Friday sought a fresh status report from the police on the investigation into the death of a 25-year-old biker who fell into a 14-foot deep pit in west Delhi’s Janakpuri on February 6.

Kamal Dhyani was returning home late at night from his workplace in Rohini when he fell into the pit dug by the Delhi Jal Board in the south-west Delhi district to lay sewer lines.

While hearing an application filed by the victim’s counsel seeking a status report and a court-monitored probe, Judicial Magistrate First Class Harjot Singh Aujla of the Dwarka Courts issued fresh directions to the Station House Officer of the Janakpuri police station.

The order came after the victim’s counsel expressed the possibility of CCTV footage and other evidence being tampered with, and requested the court to ensure their protection.

Two persons have been arrested and three DJB officials suspended so far. Earlier this week, the court granted protection from arrest to two DJB contractors while denying bail to subcontractor Rajesh Kumar Prajapati.
