Samsung workers have planned to march to the Tamil Nadu Secretariat on February 15, urging the State government to ensure that steps would be taken to restore jobs of 27 suspended workers and hold the company’s management accountable.

The proposed march follows the suspension of 27 workers of the Sriperumbudur facility last year, an issue that has remained unresolved despite repeated representations. The suspension followed months of protests by a section of workers for better pay, working facilities, and recognition of a newly-formed union. In February 2025, the Samsung India Employees Union was formally recognised.

However, the suspended workers have not been reinstated by the management. The Sriperumbudur facility is a major manufacturing unit employing several hundred workers, and producing consumer electronics for the domestic market.

CITU State president Soundarrajan said the march planned on February 15 is to nudge the State government to take concrete steps to reinstate the 27 workers. He said the Labour Department had convened six rounds of conciliation talks over the past few months, but the company’s management refused to participate, stalling the resolution process.

The workers are now seeking government intervention to ensure job security and compliance with labour laws.
