Around 75,000 people across Tamil Nadu cast mock votes during the electronic voting machines-voter verifiable paper audit trail (EVMs-VVPAT) demonstration campaign organised in 157 EVM demonstration centres since January 25 this year.

Over 18,000 locations were covered by mobile demonstration vans for the campaign, according to the Election Commission of India (EC). It has been organising extensive awareness campaigns across poll-bound States, including Tamil Nadu, to familiarise voters with the functioning of the EVMs and VVPAT, an official release said.

The campaign was being conducted through EVM demonstration centres and mobile demonstration vans. EVM demonstration centres have been set up at District Election Officer headquarters and Returning Officer/Revenue Sub Division headquarters across the State.

As of February 10, a total of 75,816 people visited 157 EVM demonstration centres across Tamil Nadu and of them, 75,586 people cast ‘mock votes’ at these centres. “The EVM/VVPAT awareness campaign is aimed at enhancing voter confidence by providing hands-on experience with the machines, clarifying doubts regarding their functioning, and ensuring complete transparency in the electoral process,” the release added.
