Rama Rao said on Friday. Reacting to the results of elections held for the 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations, the counting process of which was still in progress at the time of filing this report, Mr. Rama Rao said that BRS winning about 730 wards out of a total of over 2,580 was a clear indication of the party’s strong base and people’s support. On the ruling party’s performance, he said that it was clear warning signal since it could win only half of the wards despite employing all tactics and strategies at its disposal. Of the 116 municipalities, BRS had won 15, in another the result was hung and in another 30 municipalities, which include 15 civic bodies, BRS had emerged as the single largest party. When compared with 2020 municipal results, the Congress (ruling party) performance was nowhere near the BRS mark of that time. Of the 130 municipalities, the BRS had then bagged 22, against four by Congress and two each by BJP and MIM. This time, the ruling party could win just over half of the civic bodies (67). In the municipal corporations too, the BRS had fared well although the ruling party would have a natural advantage in the local bodies’ elections, Mr. Rama Rao said. In Kothagudem corporation the CPI had won a majority of seats and the BRS had offered unconditional support to the Left party to win the Mayor’s post and keep Congress and BJP at bay.
