KARIMNAGAR / NIZAMABAD / ADILABAD

The BJP emerged as a single largest party in both Karimnagar and Nizamabad Municipal Corporations in the keenly fought elections that saw multi-cornered fight, the results of which were announced on Friday.

In Karimnagar, the BJP clinched 30 of the total 66 divisions while the ruling Congress party won 14 divisions. The BRS, which ruled the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation (MCK) for two terms in a row, suffered a major setback in its stronghold, managing to win just nine divisions.

The credit to the BJP’s good show in the two municipal corporations was given to a well-calibrated election strategy by the party’s State leadership.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the party MP from Karimnagar and Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind spearheaded a no-holds-barred electioneering in the two municipal bodies in their constituencies. During their high-decibel electioneering, the two leaders often targeted the ruling Congress, the BRS and the AIMIM accusing them of forging a secret pact to defeat the BJP. While Mr. Sanjay touched upon local civic issues assuring the voters to find a lasting solution. Mr. Arvind centered his campaign on “Mana Indur – Mana Mayor” slogan to strike a chord with the denizens of Nizamabad.

The saffron party managed to win 21 of the 49 divisions in Adilabad municipality relegating the ruling Congress party and the main Opposition BRS to the second and third positions respectively. While the Congress had won 11 divisions, the BRS secured six divisions.

Addressing the jubilant BJP cadre in Karimnagar on Friday evening, Mr. Sanjay said that the people of Karimnagar reposed their faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development agenda by giving their electoral mandate to BJP.

“Inspired by this victory, we will strive to win the Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri municipal corporations in the coming elections,” he asserted.
