Two cops shunted to AR after non-bailable warrant accused escapes

Following the escape of an accused under a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW), two police personnel have been transferred to the Armed Reserve Police.

Pulipandi, 25, a resident of Vilangulam near Manamadurai, was previously arrested in connection with the 2022 murder of a youth named Akash. After being released on bail, Pulipandi failed to appear for court hearings, leading the Sivaganga Principal District and Sessions Court to issue an NBW against him.

Sivaganga Taluk Police apprehended him on Thursday. However, while being escorted for a mandatory medical examination, Pulipandi managed to escape from police custody, it is said.

Following a fresh case registered by the Sivaganga Town Police, Pulipandi surrendered before the Sivaganga Principal District Court on Friday.

In response to the security lapse, Superintendent of Police (SP) R. Shiva Prasad ordered the transfer of constables Rajesh Kanna and Shanmugavelu to the Armed Reserve.
