As the council meeting, presided over by chairman R. Sadhir of DMK, commenced on Friday, 75 proposals were placed before the council for its approval. The AIADMK and the BJP councillors objected to three proposals relating to giving approval for three layouts in Tenkasi saying that the council should not accept it as these three layouts did not follow the existing norms. As the objection triggered heated arguments between the members of the DMK and the AIADMK – BJP combine, independent councillor Mohammed Rasappa supported the DMK members and the proposal and it led to scuffle between BJP member Sankara Subramanian and Mr. Rasappa. Following the acrimonious scenes, the council meeting was ended abruptly. Even as the BJP councillors were staging dharna inside the council hall demanding action against Mr. Rasappa, the BJP members, on getting alerted by the protesting councillors, started gathering in front of the Tenkasi municipality office. As they started demonstrating in front of the municipality office, the police held talks with the protestors to withdraw their agitation.
