The city district committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha on Friday (February 13, 2026) staged a march to the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) office at Kadavanthra, protesting against the State government’s alleged move to regularise temporary employees by bypassing recruitment rules. The march, which began at Manorama Junction, was inaugurated by Yuva Morcha State president V. Manu Prasad. He said the Yuva Morcha would strongly oppose the government’s attempt to sideline institutions such as the Public Service Commission (PSC) and the Employment Exchange and instead induct party loyalists and relatives into government establishments through the back door. Thousands of candidates in PSC rank lists were being betrayed by the government, Mr. Manu alleged. Yuva Morcha city district president Rinu Harshan presided. GCDA sources said a proposal had been sent to the government to regularise a few lower-category employees, numbering fewer than ten, who had been working for nearly a decade. “Since there has been a recruitment ban in the GCDA for more than ten years, the authority could not make appointments. They were, therefore, engaged as temporary workers. However, the proposal is yet to be approved by the government,” sources added. The police had set up barricades in front of the GCDA office to block the march. The protesters were arrested and removed from the spot.
