Fight against drugs: Mysuru police visit schools, colleges and hostels to educate students

The Mysuru City Police have intensified their anti-drug awareness campaign, titled ‘Vimukthi’, conducting outreach programmes in several educational institutions across the city to sensitise students about the dangers of substance abuse.

As part of the initiative, police officers visited schools, colleges and hostels to educate students about the harmful effects of narcotic substances and to promote a ‘drug-free Mysuru’. The campaign seeks to curb the sale, consumption and other illegal activities related to drugs while encouraging active public participation in eliminating the drug menace from the city.

Awareness programmes were held at Maharani’s Women’s PU College, Devaraja Mohalla; Vivekananda PU College, Vijayanagar; Vidyavikas College Students’ Hostel, Bannur Road; Government Nature Cure and Yoga Medical College, Brindavan Extension; D. Devaraj Urs Boys’ Students’ Hostel, Nandini Layout; and S.N.S. PU College, Alanahalli.

During the sessions, police officials explained the objectives of the ‘Vimukthi’ campaign, and elaborated on the dangers and consequences of drug abuse. Students were urged to remain vigilant and report any instance of drug sale or consumption to the police.

The police have publicised a helpline number — 8277948080 — encouraging citizens to share information regarding drug sale, consumption and related illegal activities. Authorities assured that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.

Posters displaying the helpline number have been put up on notice boards of institutions, at main entrances and at prominent public places including parks and other key locations across the city to spread awareness and encourage public cooperation.

The police commissioner’s office reiterated its commitment to making Mysuru a drug-free city through sustained implementation of the campaign, and appealed to the students and the general public to extend their support.
