The BJP Kisan Morcha will organise a roundtable on natural farming in Vijayawada on January 3.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, its State president Chigurupati Kumara Swamy described natural farming as a vital necessity for the future of farmers, soil health and food security, and stressed that a shift towards chemical-free agriculture was the need of the hour.

He said the meeting aims to create awareness among farmers on all aspects of natural farming, from seed selection and soil health to livestock management, preparation of natural inputs, certification and marketing.

Excessive dependence on chemical fertilisers and pesticides led to rising cultivation costs, deterioration of soil fertility and increase in health-related issues, he said. To reverse the trend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had resolved to promote natural and organic farming as a national movement, he added.

Highlighting the role of the Central government, Mr. Kumara Swamy said schemes such as Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY), Bharatiya Prakriti Krishi Paddhati (BPKP) and National Mission on Sustainable Agriculture were encouraging farmers to adopt chemical-free practices. These initiatives provide training, certification support and market linkages, along with efforts to ensure better prices for organic produce, he said.
