DMK and their allies staging protest in Thoothukudi on Thursday. | Photo Credit: RAJESH N Condemning the alleged neglect of Tamil Nadu in the Union Budget, DMK and its allies staged demonstrations at 35 locations across Thoothukudi district. The protest organised by Secular Progressive Alliance, was held across the State condemning the BJP-led union government for side-lining Tamil Nadu in the Union Budget, introducing measures that would dilute the 100-day employment scheme and US trade agreement alleged to be detrimental to farmers. In Thoothukudi, the protest held near the Chidambara Nagar bus stand was led by DMK city secretary S. R. Ananthasekaran. Thoothukudi Corporation Mayor Jegan Periyasamy participated as a special invitee and addressed the gathering. Similar protests were conducted at 24 locations across municipal, town, union and panchayat levels in Thoothukudi north district and 11 locations in south district.
