Tenkasi District Collector A. K. Kamal Kishore on Thursday inaugurated the Porunai literary festival at I. C. Iswaranpillai Government Boys Higher Secondary School.

Speaking at the event Mr. Kishore emphasised that literature is the art of expressing emotions of the people directly or indirectly, about the civilisation, culture, politics and various aspects of the society from which it has originated, adding that the Porunai literary festival would be held for two days in Tenkasi.

Highlighting that the first Porunai literary festival was held in Tirunelveli, followed by one in Thoothukudi and this year’s edition being hosted in Tenkasi, he noted that the literary festival has been conceived to celebrate the literary traditions of Tamil language.

As part of the festival, a separate arena has been set up for lectures and discussions by eminent Tamil writers and speakers on various topics, and essay and book reviews have been planned.

Tenkasi District Forest Officer R. Rajmohan, District Revenue Officer S. Jayachandran and several other officials were present.
