POORNACHANDRA KUMAR The YSRCP has raised eyebrows over the contract bagged recently for supply of ghee to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) by Indapur Dairy and Milk Products Limited, a Maharashtra-based manufacturing unit of Heritage Foods, run by the family of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Addressing the media here on Thursday, YSRCP Chittoor district president Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, who previously served as the TTD Trust Board chairman, pointed to the “scores of inaccuracies” in the charges heaped by Mr. Naidu against the erstwhile YSRCP dispensation over the ghee procurement issue. Mr. Karunakar Reddy made specific mention of Mr. Naidu’s repeated statements in the past that pure ghee could never be supplied at the rate of ₹300, indirectly attributing the alleged supply of adulterated ghee to the TTD to the YSRCP regime’s insistence on “very low price.” He recalled in this connection that the Indapur Dairy had supplied 16.50 lakh kg of ghee at the rate of ₹306/kg in 2015, less than a year after Mr. Naidu had taken over the reins of the bifurcated State. “The TTD’s then Specified Authority Chairman J.S.V. Prasad approved the contract on January 15, 2015,” he recalled. Mr. Reddy also wondered if using the name of its manufacturing unit ‘Indapur Dairy’ to apply for the contract was an overt attempt to camouflage the name of the more-popular ‘Heritage Foods’, to avoid being viewed by the public as unduly influencing the tender process. “After Mr. Naidu repeatedly stated that pure ghee can never be supplied for around Rs.300 a kg, the manufacturing unit of his family’s Heritage Foods has bagged the contract for ₹658 in December 2025. We now suspect if it is a deliberate ploy to tune the people’s minds to accept a higher-than-normal price,” he observed.
