The 24-hour nationwide strike called by trade unions on Thursday was near total in Idukki, disrupting normal life across the district. Despite some isolated incidents, the strike remained largely peaceful.

Supporters of the strike reportedly forced the closure of several private banks and financial institutions in Kattappana.

The impact of the strike was most pronounced in tea plantation sector, which witnessed an almost complete shutdown. Cardamom plantations, which depend heavily on labourers from Tamil Nadu, were also affected as vehicles transporting workers failed to reach the district. However, migrant workers in some plantations reported for work on Thursday.

Major towns, including Thodupuzha, Adimaly, Kattappana, Kumily, Munnar and Cheruthoni, wore a deserted look. Only a few vehicles carrying tourists and essential travellers were seen on the road in popular destinations such as Munnar, Wagamon and Thekkady.
