The Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Chennai Egmore arrested a man for allegedly smuggling silver bars worth ₹61.50 lakh and unaccounted cash worth ₹2.50 lakh during inspection at the railway station. On Tuesday, a special drive was conducted at Chennai Egmore railway station to curb the illegal transportation of contraband items and unaccounted cash. During the inspection of passengers, who had deboarded Train No. 12665 Howrah – Kanyakumari Express at Platform No. 7 around 8 pm, officials detained a man for behaving suspiciously. Upon enquiry, he identified himself as Sanjay Arunkumar, 40, of Salem. Silver bars and ornaments weighing 20.433 kg, valued at approximately ₹61.29 lakh, along with Indian currency amounting to ₹2,89,000, was seized from his trolley bag as he failed to produce valid documents. The total value of the seized items was ₹64,08,900. The accused and the seized items were handed over to officials of the Income Tax Department for further action.
