HYDERABAD Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Wednesday sharply criticised the ruling Congress, alleging large-scale misuse of power and intimidation during the municipal elections. He accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of resorting to ‘excesses and atrocities’ out of fear of electoral defeat. In a press statement, Mr. Rao said the Congress government had created obstacles for voters and attempted to influence them through inducements. Despite these alleged pressures, he praised BRS workers for displaying remarkable courage and determination throughout the polling process. “My heartfelt congratulations to every party worker for their fighting spirit and commitment,” he said. He added that the resilience shown by the cadres had infused new energy and confidence into the party during the municipal battle. Mr. Rao claimed that the Congress leadership, rattled by the setback in the recent Gram Panchayat polls, feared similar losses in urban areas and therefore misused administrative machinery at various stages of the elections. He also alleged that the ruling party was attempting to sway public opinion using thousands of crores of ill-gotten money. He warned that people would not remain silent in the face of such actions. Accusing the government of targeting BRS cadre, he said the police system was being misused to harass and attack party workers. Mr. Rao predicted that the Chief Minister would soon face the consequences for these alleged violations.
