Sreenarayanaguru Open University (SGOU) is set to host its first-ever UG and PG convocation ceremony on Friday, February 13. Governor and Chancellor of the university Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar will preside over the function at Younus Convention Centre and confer degrees upon the students, said University officials at a press meet here on Wednesday.

The ceremony will mark a significant milestone as the Chancellor awards degrees to the very first batch of undergraduate students and the first two batches of postgraduate students of the university. The proceedings will commence at 11:00 a.m., following a senate meeting scheduled for 10.30 a.m. Minister for Higher Education and Pro-Chancellor of the University R. Bindu will attend as the chief guest. Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal and Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development J. Chinchurani will be the guests of honour on the occasion.

“A total of 865 learners who registered for the convocation will receive their degrees from the Chancellor during the event. SGOU aims to bring quality higher education to everyone, regardless of age or other barriers,” said Vice-Chancellor Jagathy Raj V.P. He added that SGOU has opened the doors of knowledge to thousands of learners within a short span solidifying its place as a pride of Kerala’s higher education sector. “By leveraging modern technology, the university envisions revolutionary changes in the field of distance education,” he said.
