A woman head constable of police S. Meenakshi (47) was assaulted by unidentified persons near Kuruthankulam irrigation tank under Oomachikulam police station limits on Monday night. The headconstable, attached to Mattuthavani police station, had been returning home after work on her two-wheeler at around 9.30 p.m. While the bike was proceeding on Ganapathi Nagar to Parktown Aathukal bridge, one of the accused had waylaid the bike. He reportedly tried to pull her shirt and picked up a stick and hit it on her helmet and hand. The visor of the helmet was damaged and it resulted in bleeding injury on her face. She also sustained swelling on her hand. The woman also sustained scratches on her neck as the man had attempted to pull the shirt. A police officer said that the accused could have targeted random bike rider and not the police woman in particular. They could have not identified her as the policewoman as she was wearing a jerkin over the uniform. Oomachikulam police are investigating.
