A three day Rural Water Tourism Festival will begin at Malarikkal, a destination developed as part of the Meenachil, Meenanthara and Kodoor river relinking project, on Thursday. Cooperation Minister V.N. Vasavan will officially inaugurate the festival on February 13. Project coordinator K. Anil Kumar will present details of the Pazhukkanila backwater project. A major attraction of the festival will be the electric illumination arranged across the sprawling 1,800 acre paddy fields. The event will also feature local cuisine and cultural performances showcasing the traditions and talents of the local community. The festival is jointly organised by the river relinking project authorities in association with the Malarikkal Tourism Society, Thiruvarppu grama panchayat, the Thiruvarppu and Kanjiram Service Cooperative Banks, the J Block and Thiruvaikkari Polder Committees, and the Malarikkal Boat Operators Association.
