Premallatha Vijayakant urges T.N. government to consider demands of protesting teachers, sanitation workers

Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) general secretary Premallatha Vijayakant on Thursday (January 1, 2026) said the State government should consider the slew of demands put forth by protesting secondary grade teachers and sanitation workers and fulfil them at the earliest.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Ms. Premallatha said her party would stand firmly with the protesting teachers and sanitation workers. She added the [nature of] Assembly elections scheduled to be held this year in Tamil Nadu would be unprecedented and there were bright chances of the formation of a coalition government.

She reiterated that the decision on an alliance would be taken by her party after its State conference on January 9. The alliance of which her party would be a part would secure a massive victory in the Assembly elections, she said.

Amit Shah meeting

Replying to a question on whether the DMDK had been invited to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Tamil Nadu on January 4, she said her party was not invited, and that it was focusing only on its upcoming State conference.

The DMDK leader also urged the State government to take measures to curb the sale of drugs.

In a separate statement, the DMDK announced that a meeting of district secretaries would be held on January 5 at the party headquarters at Koyambedu in Chennai.
