The Kozhikode sessions court in Kerala on Wednesday (February 11, 2026) granted bail to Shimjitha Musthafa, who is accused of abetment in the death of Govindapuram native U. Deepak. She was granted bail after a 19-day judicial custody following her arrest on January 22. The prosecution had opposed the bail citing that forensic reports related to her seized mobilephone were yet to be out and that the bail might affect the ongoing probe. The first bail application filed by the accused before the Kunnamangalam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court was denied, accepting the prosecution’s contention. Deepak was found dead at his house near Govindapuram in Kozhikode city January 18. According to police sources, the video alleging sexual harassment was shot by the suspect during a bus journey in Kannur district on January 16.
