This image is used for representational purposes only. | Photo Credit: The Hindu A tusker ran amok in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, with three women losing their lives and three others sustaining grievous injuries in an encounter with the elephant on Tuesday (February 10, 2026). The incident happened in Lochapalli village under Dhenkanal Sadar police limits, where several women had gone to Patpuri Reserve Forest to collect firewood. While they were in the forest collecting firewood, the tusker attacked them around noon. Indumati Pradhan, Tuni Pradhan and Kuntala Pradhan were trampled by the elephant, losing their lives on the spot while Rashmita Pradhan, Rama Dehuri and Jhilli Pradhan were rushed to hospital with critical injuries. The forest is an elephant movement route.
