The National Deworming Programme (NDP) mop-up day programme is being held here from February 10 to 16. All persons between the ages of one and 19 will be given Albendazole-400mg tablets, said Lavish Ordia, Zilla Panchayat CEO.

He was speaking after inaugurating the National Insecticide Eradication Programme, jointly organised by the district administration, zilla panchayat, District Health and Family Welfare Department, and District Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) Department, at a government primary school in the Station Bazaar area in Yadgir city on February 10.

He appealed to people to get the Albendazole-400mg tablets from the health department and ASHA workers and make use of the programme.

District Health and Family Welfare Officer Mahesh Biradar said that under NDP, the tablets are given to children between the ages of one and five in anganwadis.

He further said that children aged six to 19 are provided with tablets in all government, aided, and private schools, colleges, and technical educational institutions.

ASHA workers have prepared a list of school dropouts between the ages of six and 19, and will provide them with tablets at anganwadis. Children between the ages of one and two are given half an Albendazole tablet, and children between the ages of two and 19 are given one tablet, Mr. Biradar said.

District RCH Officer Mallappa K. said that NDP aims to cover 5,13,173 children between the ages of one and 19 in the district.

Out of them, 1,51,542 children are in anganwadis, followed by 7,577 children who have stopped coming to anganwadis. While 3,61,631 children are in all government, aided, and private schools, 18,678 children are studying at the pre-university level, and 1,956 children are studying at ITI and technical institutes.

The departments concerned with the welfare of children should coordinate with the departments working towards the implementation of NDP, through which thousands of children are getting benefits, he added.

District Tuberculosis Control Officer Sanjeev Kumar Raichurkar, District Malaria Officer Sajid, Taluk Health Officer Hanamanthareddy, Deputy District Health Education Officer Jagannath, District Programme Manager Manohar Patil, District M&D Manager Shankaranand Talikoti, District Programme Manager Sudarshan, City Primary Health Center Doctor Vinuta, Health Department Officer, staff and other department officials, school teachers, and students were present.
