DMK MP K. Kanimozhi has blamed the Union Government for the undue delay in commencing the construction work of Madurai AIIMS building.

Responding to a question on BJP leader K. Annamalai accusing the DMK Government for the delayed construction of the AIIMS building, Ms. Kanimozhi said that Mr. Annamalai was in a dream world.

“The Union Government does not give adequate funds. It has also stopped projects for various reasons. In such a situation, he should not make baseless allegations. Union Ministers should have inspected (the progress of the work),” she said.

Ms. Kanimozhi, who is the head of the DMK’s manifesto preparation committee, was here on Tuesday to interact with people from various walks of life from Madurai, Theni, Virudhunagar and Dindigul districts.

Hundreds of people representing various organisations, industries, farmers and traders gave their petitions with various demands.

Agri and All Trade Chamber has demanded a big convention centre in Madurai on the lines of Chennai Trade Centre and Codissia Trade Fair Complex in Madurai.

“Absence of such a facility was affecting the trade and business, especially exports of goods,” said its president, S. Rethinavelu.

The chamber also pressed for multi-modal transport system in madurai that connecting railway, metro, airport and bus services.

It wanted the Government to create a land bank and offer it to MNC and domestic industrial houses at an affordable price.

The infrastructure of regulated agricultural markets should be improved to ensure fair price for farmers for their produce.

Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry pressed for construction of an underpass on Madurai-Tirumangalam Ring Road to facilitate extension of Madurai Airport runway.

The Madurai Notebooks Manufacturers’ Assocation demanded nill GST on notebooks for students and 5% GST on paper and paper products.
