University employees under the banner of the Confederation of University Employees Organisations, Kerala, will participate in the nationwide general strike on Thursday. Fourteen national trade unions in the country, along with employees and teachers of the Central and State Civil Services, workers’ organisations of Central and State Public Sector Undertakings, and independent trade unions, have jointly called for a strike. Their demands include the withdrawal of the Labour Codes, restoration of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), rollback of policies that allegedly weaken the Civil Services, restoration of the old pension scheme, and withdrawal of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
