Embrace the spirit of people-friendly policing, SPC tells new SIs

State Police Chief Ravada A. Chandrasekhar on Tuesday called upon newly inducted Sub-inspectors to internalise the essence of people-friendly policing and align themselves with the changing nature of law enforcement.

Addressing the passing-out parade of 73 police Sub-inspectors who completed their training at the Kerala Police Academy, the State Police Chief said traditional methods of policing were rapidly evolving and officers must continuously expand their areas of expertise to meet emerging challenges.

He noted that the police today faced a far more complex landscape marked by cybercrimes, virtual arrests, cryptocurrency-related frauds and organised narcotics networks. “These threats cannot be tackled through physical strength or force alone. Intelligence-led policing and a deep understanding of technology are essential to counter new-generation crimes,” he said.

The parade was led by R. Ananthu Shekhar, with K.S. Nizamuddin serving as Second-in-Command. The State Police Chief also distributed awards to trainees who excelled during the training period. R. Ananthu Shekhar was adjudged the Best All-Rounder (Indoor), K.S. Nizamuddin the Best Outdoor Cadet, and K. Sanjay the Best Shooter.

The year-long basic training, which began on January 8, 2025, included intensive outdoor and indoor training. As part of disaster preparedness, National Disaster Response Force experts provided practical training in disaster management, drawing lessons from recent flood-related emergencies in Kerala.

Coastal security training was conducted at the Kochi Naval Base and Fort Kochi Coastal Police Station, while forensic medicine training was imparted at Thrissur Medical College Hospital. The batch also completed counter-terrorism training at the SOG camp in Areekode and high-altitude training at Kuttikkanam in Idukki.

Like previous batches, the 31-D batch includes several highly educated recruits, with 22 postgraduates and 51 graduates joining the force.

The ceremony was attended by IG and Kerala Police Academy Director K. Sethuraman, Thrissur Range DIG T. Narayanan, senior police officers, public representatives and family members of the trainees.
