The Kavoor police have arrested a 32-year-old man on charges of marrying a woman with false claims and cheating her of ₹6.6 lakh with forged documents. The police identified the accused as Sushant Poojary, alias Sushant Ankush Poojary, alias Sushant G Karkera, a native of Kallamundkur near Moodbidri and presently residing in Mumbai. The complainant, a 27-year-old woman in Kavoor police limits said she came in contact with the accused through matrimony sites and married him on February 2, 2025 at Ghansoli in Navi Mumbai. When Poojary went missing on November 15, 2025, she grew suspicious and, on inquiry, found that he had already married another woman in Mangaluru in 2021. The victim said Poojary had fraudulently withdrawn ₹6.6 lakh from her bank accounts. Upon securing Poojary on February 5, police found that he had already married another woman from Udupi. The accused had also cheated two women from Udupi, Mumbai and Bengaluru and one from Bengaluru, by promising to marry them after approaching them through matrimony sites. He was produced before the jurisdictional magistrate, who remanded the accused to judicial custody. Police have also arrested one Bhaskar from Mulki for falsely endorsing Poojary as his nephew to the victim. As of now, he was booked for offences of criminal breach of trust, cheating and similar offences under Bharatiya Nayaya Samhita. Police said Poojary faces cases of raping a minor girl booked by Arnala police in Palghar district of Maharashtra, cheating by Urva police in Mangaluru and theft by Kota police in Udupi district.
