apart from enriching daily diets, pulse cultivation naturally enhances soil fertility, Associate Director of Research, Central Telangana Zone, R. Uma Reddy said stressing the importance of pulses in providing essential nutrients and proteins.

The scientist was addressing an event organised to mark the International Pulses Day jointly organised by the Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS) and Telangana Rythu Vigyan Kendra (RVK), Warangal on Tuesday, highlighting the vital role of pulses in nutrition and sustainable agriculture.

Speaking at the event, Uma Reddy expressed concern that the acreage under pulses in the country has been declining over the years, which may force India to rely heavily on imports to meet domestic demand. Coordinator of RVK Warangal A. As part of the celebrations, several farmers who achieved high yields in pulse cultivation were felicitated. A cooking competition showcasing dishes prepared using pulses was also held, and participating students were awarded certificates of appreciation.

Leading agricultural scientists interacted with farmers and explained newly developed varieties and modern cultivation techniques aimed at boosting pulse production.

Marking the occasion, the organisers also distributed pulses to orphans and economically disadvantaged families.
